American SUV manufacturer Jeep, showcased the Jeep Compass compact SUV at the ongoing LA Auto Show 2016 in Los Angeles, California. At the unveil event of the new SUV, Jeep revealed that the Compass will be manufactured locally in India and will be exported from India to all global RHD markets. The company also revealed that the Jeep Compass will receive around 75-80% localisation which will help the company to price the SUV competitively in the Indian car market. Apart from the Ranjangaon plant in Pune, India, the Jeep Compass will be manufactured at Pernambuco, Brazil, Guangzhou, China and Toluca, Mexico. The SUV segment has been the fastest growing segment in India and Jeep is looking forward to take advantage of it in order to grow globally. The all new Jeep Compass takes its design inspiration from the Jeep Grand Cherokee with the seven slat front grille and trapezoidal wheel arches. The baby Grand Cherokee will be a premium offering form the American SUV maker while the Renegade will be a premium compact off-road SUV that gets its design inspiration from the Wrangler. The Jeep Compass will be positioned below the Renagade and is expected to be priced in the range of INR 20 to INR 25 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The interiors of the new Jeep Compass are inspired from the Grand Cherokee as well. The SUV gets multi-functional three-spoke steering wheel, touch-screen display on the centre console, twin pod instrument cluster with MID unit, dual tone black and grey interior scheme and leather upholstery. Features list include a 7-inch touch-screen infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry with passive go, cap-less fuel system, powered tailgate and electronic sunroof. Safety features include six airbags, ABS along with EBD, electronic stability program, cruise control, hill hold assist, hill descent control and the likes. The global variant of the Compass SUV will get as many as 70 safety features. The SUV gets a boot space capacity of 438 litres. Internationally, the Jeep Compass will be available in a total of 17 petrol and diesel power-train options. Engine line-up will range from 1.4 Multiair turbo petrol to 1.6-litre & 2.0-litre turbo diesels while the higher variants will get 2.4-litre TigerShark petrol and 2.0 TigerShark flex fuel (petrol & ethanol) engine. Transmission options will include 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes along with an optional 9-speed automatic transmission. If priced competitively, the Jeep Compass will compete against the Hyundai Tucson and the upcoming Volkswagen Tiguan and the Skoda Kodiaq.
