The Jeep Compass unveiled in India recently is all set to be launched in our country by the month of August this year. Now according to media reports, it is speculated that Jeep dealerships will start receiving the Compass by this month’s end for interested buyers to have a look at the American automaker’s first ingenuously produced SUV. The Jeep Compass is being manufactured locally in India at Fiat Chrysler’s Ranjangaon plant near Pune. When launched, the Compass will pitch against the likes of Hyundai Tucson, Honda CR-V and the upcoming Skoda Yeti. The Jeep Compass is based on the American automaker’s small wide 4×4 platform which is also going to underpin the Renegade compact SUV which too is anticipated to arrive in India soon. Due to the local manufacturing of the Jeep Compass, it is likely that the prices of this SUV would be quite aggressive, unlike its bigger siblings, the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wrangler Unlimited. Despite being an SUV designed primarily for the urban environment, the Jeep Compass will not loose on its off-roading roots. The SUV will come equipped with the automaker’s tried and tested 4-wheel drive system that promises to tackle each and every terrain thrown at it. This advanced system will be facilitated by Compass’s highly refined and powerful engines. The petrol derivative of the Jeep Compass will get a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine churning out 160Bho of power along with 260Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine however is to be a Fiat sourced 2.0-litre unit producing 170Bhp along with 350Nm of peak torque.
Transmission options are to include a 6-speed manual unit while there will also be a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic on offer. The Jeep Compass will also be available in 4×2 option as well, in both petrol and diesel guises. Apart from its superior off-road capabilities, the Compass is also to get a luxurious and feature rich cabin. Not only is the cabin going to be plush but at the same time is will posses practical capabilities as well. In terms of gadgets, the Jeep Compass will get a touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, steering mounted controls, voice command, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers to name a few. Outside, the Jeep Compass gets an aesthetic profile while reminds one quite a lot of the bigger Grand Cherokee. There is the signature clamshell bonnet, swelled wheel arches, LED DRLs, projector headlamps, LED tail-lamps, multi-spoke alloy wheels, skid plates among the others.
