After launching the all-new 2017 Jeep Compass premium SUV in India, the American car maker will now be focusing on its most affordable SUV which is expected to launch in India next year. Likely to be priced around INR 10 lakh (ex-showroom), the upcoming Renegade SUV will be car maker’s fourth product in the domestic market. Jeep India has already initiated the testing phase for the affordable SUV as it has been spied number of times in the past. Yet again, the SUV wrapped under camouflage has been spied while testing revealing the interior details as well. Going by the spy shots, the test mule is completely camouflaged; however, managed to reveal some of the design elements. Retaining the same boxy design likewise the SUV sold in the international market, the upcoming Renegade SUV will sport signature -style multi-slat grille along with round headlamps. It will also sport a chunky bumper incorporating a bigger air dam with fog lamps on the sides. The rear section carries small tail lamp design with large bumper and roof spoiler. The SUV is expected to sport leather interior with host of features that will accentuate the overall design of the cabin. However, the test mule carried fabric seats only. In terms of features, the SUV is likely to be seen with features like steering mounted controls, touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, leather wrapped steering wheel and much more. The upcoming Jeep Renegade will also be manufactured at Fiat Chrysler facility in Ranjangaon near Pune which will help the compass to keep the prices competitive. The SUV is expected to be offered only in diesel version initially which will be powered by a 2.0-litre unit which will be available in two states of tune – 138 Bhp and 168 Bhp. Further carrying forward the Jeep legacy, the Renegade is expected to be offered in both 4×2 and 4×4 drive-trains. To be pitted against the likes of Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster, this entry-level Jeep Renegade is expected to be priced in the range of INR 10 lakh – 15 lakh (ex-showroom). The forthcoming SUV will also be an important product for the company as it will play an essential role in creating the brand image of pocket friendly and practical vehicle in price sensitive market like India.
