Jeep India is currently facing an issue with the high market demand for the Jeep Compass. Such is the demand that the company has delayed the launch of Compass diesel automatic variant. A new report now claims that the India-spec 2019 Jeep Renegade will be powered by a 1.6-litre Multijet diesel engine. This is the same engine that powered the old Maruti S-Cross 1.6 model. The Jeep Renegade is expected to be showcased at the Auto Expo 2018, while the car should be launched in India by year end or early 2019. The Jeep Renegade will be the most affordable offering from the automaker in India and will remain true to Jeep’s off-roading capabilities, both in terms of its exterior design as well as its mechanical capabilities. The exterior profile of the Renegade gets bold contours and signature Jeep lines which gives it the character of a serious 4×4 while the provision of certain curvaceous lines with provides it with an urban appeal. The Renegade is to get conventional circular headlamps, roof-rails, skid plates and black plastic cladding among other features. The Cabin of the Jeep Renegade will be premium yet functional in nature. The colour theme is to be primarily black with exterior colour highlights thrown into the mix to provide it with sporty touch. The feature list will include a touchscreen infotainment system, multi-functional steering wheel, automatic climate control, reverse parking camera with sensors, auto dimming IRVMs, height adjustable driver’s, tilt and telescopic steering wheel to name a few. The Jeep Renegade is expected to be powered by a 1.6-litre MultiJet diesel engine that is capable of producing 118 BHP of maximum power and 320 Nm of peak torque. Transmission responsibilities will be taken care of by a 6-speed manual gearbox while a 7-speed DDCT automatic transmission will also be available as an option. Staying true to Jeep’s DNA, the Renegade will be available in both four-wheel drive as well as two-wheel drive options. Talking about prices, the Jeep Renegade is to fall in the price range of INR 9 to 14 lakh (ex-showroom). With this price tag, the Renegade will compete against the likes of Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster.
