Jeep India will soon launch the all-new Jeep Compass SUV in India in August 2017. Following the Compass, the company will launch the Jeep Renegade in India followed by an all-new sub 4-meter SUV. The Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport rival is expected to be launched sometime in 2019, while project development is underway. According to Mike Hanley, Head of Jeep, the new Jeep sub-compact SUV will be positioned ‘above the Ford EcoSport‘ and will be ‘very close’ to the Ford SUV. He further revealed that India is the ‘most critical’ market for Jeep and the company is exploring ‘opportunities’ to form a partnership with Tata Motors and is open for ‘discussions’. The new Jeep sub-compact SUV will be a real SUV with all the Jeep characteristics. Talking about the new SUV, Mike Hanley said that the EcoSport rival “will be a real Jeep and not something with a Jeep badge on the back. It will have real capability and be a true trail-rated vehicle, meaning it will have real off-road skills.” The new compact SUV is currently in the development stage and will be positioned below the Jeep Renegade in India. While the Renegade is expected to be launched in India by end-2018, the new sub-compact SUV will be launched globally in 2018, while the SUV is expected to makes its Indian debut in 2019. The new sub 4-metre compact SUV will come equipped with an AWD system and fitting in all the off-road hardware will be a big challenge for Jeep. Being a sub-compact SUV, the smallest Jeep offering will be powered by a completely new set of engines. Jeep is currently in works to partner with Tata Motors to share power-trains, transmission and platforms across the line-up to keep costs low. Mike Manley said, “Our relationship with Tata Motors is good, I would be very open to discussions with Tata about opportunities where collectively we could win.” He further added, “Engines for sure, transmission for sure, various components for platforms for sure, they (Tata) have a significant industrial footprint. The new sub-compact Jeep SUV is internally codenamed as Jeep 526 and is expected to share its design with the Jeep Renegade. The SUV is expected to come with round headlights along with the signature seven slat grille. Jeep is expected to manufacture the Renegade locally in India which will be positioned below the Compass. We expect the Renegade to be priced in the range of INR 12 lakh to INR 15 lakh. The new Jeep sub-compact SUV will be a global offering from the American car maker and India will be its export hub for the global markets. Being a volume product for the company, Jeep will have to improve its dealership and service network in India to be successful.
