The roar of the MP4-27 was rivaled by the loud cheer coming from over 50,000 fans that had turned up to witness Lewis Hamilton drive his 2012 Formula one challenger on a deserted stretch at the Bandra-Kurla complex in Mumbai. The former world champion made his maiden run of the evening with road conditions less than ideal thanks to the slight drizzle prior to the drive.
Thankfully, after the entire downpour in recent times, it seemed the rain gods had grown tired of soaking the earth and didn’t show up for pretty much rest of the event. With over a kilometer stretch of rain-soaked tarmac ahead, Hamilton gave it the beans as the car took off. Rear wheels scrambling for traction, the fabulously low MP4-27 grew momentum at an alarming pace as within no time, it went past our stand at the edge of the 1.5km long stretch.
To give the fans a taste of Formula one, the entire road was done up akin to a racetrack, complete with stands and a pit garage. Meanwhile, a couple of intersections down the long stretch were the most sought-after viewing spots as Hamilton famed his driving skills on display and went on to perform a slew of donuts and burnouts, much to the delight of the fans.
In the end, a visibly delighted Lewis had put up a spectacular show driving his 2012 Formula one car and a few C63 AMG’s for the chosen lucky fans who eventually left the venue with memories of riding shotgun in an AMG-powered Mercedes driven by a Formula one world champion.
