Live: 2013 Skoda Octavia unveiled in India

The new Octavia will compete in the D-segment which is currently dominated by Toyota Corolla Altis and Hyundai Elantra. 

After months of rumours, speculations and spy shots, Skoda India will finally unveil the 2013 Octavia. The car is officially set to take its first bow in the country at an event that is scheduled to undergo within few minutes.

The new Octavia has been eagerly awaited for all the right reasons: The car is not only bigger, but also lighter than the outgoing car i.e. the Laura thanks to it being based on Volkswagen’s MQB platform. The revolutionary architecture has allowed Skoda to increase the car’s length and width. 

– Production for the new Octavia starts today.

– The new Octavia is being produced at Skoda's production facility in Aurangabad, where the carmaker already produces the Superb, Yeti and the Laura.

– Skoda global CEO Prof. Dr.h.c. Winfried Vahland is present and will soon take the covers off the new Octavia. 

– Pricing and engine specifications won't be revealed today, says Skoda.

– The brand Octavia enjoys a cult status in India, claims Skoda. The 2013 model will be launched during the festive season.  

– Globally, Skoda sells more than 500,000 units of the Octavia every year.

– The new Octavia is the first model in India to carry Skoda's new global design language.  

– Three engines options – two petrol and one diesel engine to be offered with the new Octavia. 

– 1.8-litre TSI, 1.4-litre TSI and 2-litre TDI will be offered with the new Octavia. The smaller 1.4-litre unit is the new addition to the range.   

– Skoda has confirmed that the current Laura will be phased out when the new Octavia comes out. 

DRLs (Daytime running lights) on the new Octavia not just enhances the presence but also look striking. 

Since the car has a longer wheelbase, Skoda says it has class leading levels of space and comfort.  

Like before, DSG gearbox option makes its appearance on the new car as well.   

In typical Skoda fashion, the dials are super clear and easy to read. 

Its not just comfortable and spacious for the occupants, the Octavia also comes with what could be the biggest boot in its class.  

Longer wheelbase means better rear legroom, something that we all love!
