Jeep India is will soon launch the all-new Jeep Compass premium SUV in India. Expected to be the most affordable Jeep SUV in India, the Jeep Compass is being unveiled today in India. The car will be completely manufactured in India at Fiat India’s facility in Ranjangaon near Pune. The Indian facility will act as the exclusive export hub for the Compass for all the RHD markets globally. The Compass will be Jeep India’s third SUV offering in India after the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, which were launched last year in India. The Jeep Compass is based on the same platform that underpins the Jeep Renegade, however, the SUV features a wide stance with the clampshell bonnet, while the overall design of the SUV is quite butch. Dimensionally, the Compass measures at 4447 mm in length, 1813 mm in width and 1651 mm in height, while the car gets a wheelbase 2634 mm along with a ground clearance of 205mm. The front fascia is accentuated by the 7-slot chrome finished front grille and projector headlights with LED daytime running lights. The SUV gets trapezoidal wheel arches with plastic cladding on the sides while the rear gets LED taillights. Coming to the features, the Jeep Compass SUV will get a 7-inch touch-screen infotainment system with support for Android Auto and Apple Car Play for the top-end variant, while the lower spec variant will get a 5-inch UConnect touch screen infotainment system. Other features include automatic climate control, Key-less entry, engine start/stop button, 9-speaker Beats audio system with sub-woofer and the likes. The Jeep Compass will come with 50 plus safety features, which comprises of six airbags, traction control, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control, Hill start assist, Hill Descent Controll, reverse parking camera and rear parking sensors among others. Powering this most affordable SUV from Jeep will be two engines – 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol and 2.0-litre Multijet II Diesel. The former is capable of producing 138bhp of max power while the latter which is a Fiat sourced engine will churn out 170bhp of max power. The transmission duties will be taken care by a 6-speed manual and a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
Coming to the competition, this all-new 2017 Jeep Compass premium SUV seems to give a tough time to rivals such as Hyundai Tucson and Honda CR-V. However, if the SUV is priced competitively, which is expected to be around INR 20 lakh INR 25 lakh then the purpose of introducing the SUV could be served. Considering the price point, the compact SUV could also affect the sales of Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner.
