Iconic American utility carmaker, Jeep will soon launch the highly anticipated Jeep Compass premium compact SUV today in India. The car is expected to start at a price of INR 17-18 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base variant, while the top-end variant might go up to INR 22 lakh. According to Jeep India, the Compass gets up to 80 percent localization. Expected to be the most affordable Jeep model in India, the Jeep Compass has garnered around 4000 bookings since its official unveil in India. The Jeep Compass is based on the company’s new “Small Wide 4X4 Architecture” platform. This is the same platform that also underpins the Jeep Renegade. According to Jeep India, the Jeep Compass gets exceptional 4×4 off-road driving capabilities along with equally good on-road driving dynamics. The Compass gets its design inspiration from the Jeep Grand Cherokee flagship premium SUV. Upfront, the compact SUV gets the signature 7-slot Jeep grille flanked by projector headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights. The car gets clamp-shell bonnet along with masculine front bumper and a wide air dam. Moving on to the sides, the Jeep Compass sports trapezoidal wheel arches that houses the 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels while a wraparound black plastic cladding completes the overall profile of the car. The Jeep Compass will come in three trim levels – Select, Longitude and the top-end Limited. In terms of features, the SUV comes equipped with an 7-inch touch-screen infotainment system, 6-airbags, dual-zone automatic climate control system, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Program, Traction Control System, Electronic Park Brake and Cruise Control System. The Compass also gets the trademark Terrain Select dial along with multiple driving modes – Auto, Sand, Snow and Off-Road. Under the hood, the Jeep Compass will initially be offered only with a diesel engine while the petrol motor will be made available at a later stage. The diesel variant will be powered by a 2.0-litre MultiJet diesel engine that pumps out a maximum power of 170 BHP peak torque of 360 Nm. This motor will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, the petrol variant will be powered by a 1.4 MultiAir petrol engine that produces 160 BHP of maximum power and 250 Nm of peak torque. This motor will come mated to a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed automatic transmission. Both the engine options get 4WD drive-train as an option.
