Mahindra is all set to launch the facelift version of the Quanto, rechristened as NuvoSport, on the 4th April. Now rumours are doing the rounds that Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to manufacture a sub 4-meter version of the Bolero SUV. This is a result of the rising duties and taxes levied on vehicles above 4-meters and having an engine capacity above 1500cc. The Mahindra Bolero has been the company’s bestselling vehicle in India. Recently, Mahindra introduced a sub 2.0-ltr version of the 2.2-ltr mHawk engine as a result of the Supreme Court banning engines above 2.0-ltr in Delhi. Mahindra wants to counter the extra tax levied by the government on larger SUVs as the Bolero is selling in good numbers in rural India. The new car will measure less that 4-meters and Mahindra is said to be working on a new 1.5-ltr engine as well, that will power the new Bolero. The current generation SUV measures 4.17-meters in length and is powered by a 2.5-ltr diesel engine. The new model is internally codenamed as U108 and will join the company’s sub 4-meter portfolio that consists of the TUV 300, KUV 100 and the soon to be launched NuvoSport sub-compact SUV. It is also said that the new model is an intermediate plan while Mahindra will introduce an all-new Bolero in 2018. Currently, the Mahindra Bolero does sales of around 7000 units per month.
