Man behind Logan to help Renault develop low-cost small car for India

Just about a year ago, Renault had announced that it would soon be developing an all-new small car, tailor-made for the Indian market and that it would take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Alto and Hyundai Eon. Also, the low-cost offering would be then exported to emerging markets like ours where cheap, small cars happen to rule the roost.

Renault India had officially said that the details about this upcoming global project will be shared in the later stages.  However, it’s the report from Reuters that sheds light on the much-awaited small car which could turn around the fortunes of Renault India.

According to the report, Mr Gerard Detourbet (The man behind Dacia’s hugely successful low-cost sedan – the Logan) is apparently building a network of Indian suppliers for the Alto-rival. The car in question is likely to be powered by an 800cc engine and is expected to come with class-leading levels of space and comfort. Like the Maruti Suzuki Alto and the Hyundai Eon, the car will be priced in the region of Rs 2.75-3 lakh.
