Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 has been a strong product since the time it was announced. The market has welcomed It with arms wide open and Maruti has acted accordingly. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Maruti has received more than 50,000 bookings for the Alto, out of which the company has delivered 32,000 units to the customers. Yesterday we published Maruti’s sales report and here’s one of the reasons behind their strong market hold.

Maruti Alto 800 bookings cross the 50,000 mark

The Alto 800 is the proverbial old wine in a new bottle. It looks fresh but still retains all that was good in the original Alto. Like the name suggests, it’s still powered by a 796cc engine, good enough to produce a  maximum power of 48PS and a maximum torque of 69Nm. Starting at Rs.2,60,512 ex-showroom Mumbai, it proves to be a good first car, much like the Alto. Add CNG option to it and it looks more interesting.  The car is available in three variants and the top spec LXi variant can be had for Rs. 3,17,279 ex-showroom Mumbai.

It’s good to see the new Alto doing well in the market but yes, there’s a very strong competitor in the form of Hyundai Eon. Although sales figures of the Eon might not be as huge as that of Alto’s, the Eon is catching up real fast. Small hatchback wars are on again.
