Maruti Suzuki A-Star could be phased out soon

With its slow sales and the rising competition in the entry-level small car segment, things haven’t been looking good for the Maruti Suzuki A-Star. After being around for nearly five years in the market, the hatchback could be phased out soon to make way for a replacement which is expected to be shown at the 2014 Auto Expo in February next year.

Maruti Suzuki first launched the A-Star in the year 2008 and aside from a few special edition models with cosmetic changes; the car has not been heavily updated. According to a report by Economic Times, sales of the A-Star dipped even below that of the ancient Maruti 800 and that the former is on its way out.

Maruti Suzuki is already readying a replacement model. Codenamed ‘YL7’, the vehicle has been caught on test in India quite a few times and is destined to replace the current Alto sold overseas whereas here in India, the car will replace the ageing A-Star.
