The Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS, the Indo-Japanese automaker’s first performance hatchback is to make its official debut today in India. Apart from adorning a number of aesthetic adds on for a sporty look, the same will be powered by a new, 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged Boosterjet engine which is capable of producing 101Bhp along with 150Nm of peak torque. This engine is a scaled down version of the one which is currently sold equipped with the standard Baleno in European countries. Interestingly, the transmission responsibilities are to be carried out by a 5-speed manual gearbox and their will be no automatic unit on offer.

Now this engine has been of particular interest, as it will be Maruti’s first performance oriented motor. It is likely that the same will also propel future model, under the same RS range in India. Ahead of the launch, Maruti Suzuki has now released teaser showcasing working of 1.0 litre Boosterjet direct injection turbo engine, which is to come powering the Baleno RS. The BOOSTERJET engine is a newly developed 1.0 litre Direct-injection turbocharged engine, tuned to Indian driving environment. The engine utilizes a turbocharger to boost power delivery and torque. Direct Injection allows enhanced control of fuel injection directly into the combustion chamber, giving better fuel efficiency and lesser emissions. The Baleno RS is to feature, apart from a new engine, several cosmetic modifications in order to differentiate it from the standard Baleno. These are to include restyled bumper, new alloy wheels, side skirts and a revised grille. On the inside, the Baleno RS is to come with contrasting stitching among other things. Prices are expected to fall in the bracket of INR 9 to 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
