Maruti Suzuki Ciaz beats Honda City in January 2017; Ciaz RS variant discontinued in India

The Maruti Ciaz RS variant is not available in the official brochure, while the price list doesn't show the RS variant either.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz has continued its dominance in the mid-size sedan segment with strong sales in January 2017. The Maruti Ciaz with 6,530 units has outsold the Honda City in January 2017, which sold 6,355 units during the same period. The Ciaz and the City sold 5,431 and 8,037 units respectively in January 2016. While the Ciaz registered a growth of 20.2 percent, the City saw a downfall of 20.92 percent in January 2017. We contacted local Maruti Suzuki dealers in Mumbai to confirm the news, and they indeed confirmed that the Ciaz RS has been discontinued in India. Also, the Maruti Ciaz RS variant has been removed from the official brochure and the official price list section as well. Maruti Suzuki will soon launch the Ciaz facelift, which will be sold exclusively through the NEXA dealerships. Media reports also suggest that the new Ciaz will come with all-black interior styling, making the Ciaz RS redundant. The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is powered by a 1.4-litre VVT petrol and a 1.3-litre DDiS 200 diesel engine. The petrol unit produces 91 BHP of maximum power and 130 Nm of peak torque, while the 1.3-litre oil burner pumps out 89 BHP of maximum power along with a peak torque of 200 Nm. Both the engines come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission while the petrol variant also gets a 4-speed automatic gearbox as an option. Reports also suggest that the Maruti Ciaz 2017 facelift will also get a 1.6-litre four-cylinder DDiS 320 diesel engine that churns out 118 BHP of maximum power and 320 Nm of peak torque. This engine will come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, similar setup that is available on the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross. The new Maruti Ciaz facelift is expected to be launched in India by mid-2017, around May or June this year. The Ciaz gets dual airbags and ABS as an option from the base trim level while other features include 7-inch SmartPlay touch-screen infotainment system and automatic climate control system among others.
