The lack of sales for petrol cars isn’t news anymore – and every now and then carmakers are trying hard to make their petrol wares sell by offering discounts, freebies, tempting finance schemes or even special edition models. Looks like the Wagon R too is getting a similar treatment now since the petrol hatchback has not been able to do much good in the recent times. So what we have here now is the Wagon R Pro – which boasts of a better kit than the plain-vanilla model.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R facelift comes next year

The Wagon R Pro comes with additional goodies like a USB Double-DIN audio system, 16 cm four-way speakers, beige floor mats, beige and black upholstery and a car perfume (wow!). What distinguishes the Wagon R Pro in appearance are the body-graphics, wheel covers, bumper protector moldings, a roof-mounted spoiler and the ‘Pro’ monogram on the boot-lid. The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Pro is priced at Rs 20,000 over the price of the standard trims viz. LX / LXi / VXi / Duo / LPG / CNG. So essentially, the Wagon R Pro offers you accessories worth Rs 30,000 at a ten-thousand-rupee discount. There is no word yet on how long this scheme will run. But looking at the state of the market, Maruti Suzuki might want to sell as many Wagon R models as they can as the ‘Pro’ monogram can manage.

The bigger news however, is the Wagon R facelift, which comes in a few months from now. Our sources tell us that Maruti Suzuki will give its tallboy hatchback some nips and tucks to make sure it stays in the game. We don’t expect any big changes apart from some redesigned headlights and taillights and some changes to the bodywork. However, what the Wagon R badly needs is the much talked about 1.0-litre diesel engine – especially since the all-new i10 will come out by late 2013 with a frugal diesel powerplant. We expect the Wagon R facelift to roll out by early 2013.
