The entry level hatchback segment in India has been witnessing quite a lot of activity in the recent past. Currently dominated by the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, this segment has been completely shaken since the Renault KWID arrived in the picture.
This new entrant took over the market like a storm and has slowly started to eat into the marker share of its main challenger, the Maruti Alto. The indo-Japanese automaker has duly took notice of this thing, and now, according to a report published in a leading automotive publication, now plans to launch an all new product to compete with the former. Though not confirmed, it is speculated that this all new product is to arrive in India sometime during the latter half of 2018. Though the specifics of this vehicle have not been confirmed yet, but it is likely that this is to be a completely new vehicle from the ground up.
Now to compete against the current breed of entry level hatchbacks, this all new product is to sport a muscular exterior profile, which is youthful and contemporary in nature. The same can be said about the interior as well, Maruti’s all new KWID competitor could very well feature an up-market and feature loaded cabin.
Now it has been speculated that this all new product is not be a replacement for the Alto 800, but a new product in Maruti’s product line-up in India. Information regarding the engine specifications of this all new product from Maruti Suzuki is quite scarce; though we expect it to feature a 1.0-litre petrol engine, probably burrowed from the existing Alto K10.
Talking about the prices, it is likely to fall in the bracket of INR 2.7 to 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom)
