Ever since its launch in the domestic market last year, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has received an excellent response from the Indian audience. Emerged as Indian Car Of The Year (ICOTY) 2017, the sub-compact SUV has been attracting huge volumes of about 10,000 units each month. We previously reported in March this year that the Indo-Japanese car maker has sold over 1.1 lakh units of the compact SUV. Going by the media reports, it is believed that the car maker has now reached a milestone of 1.5 lakh units with waiting period of more than 6 months for certain variants. Once Maruti‘s new facility in Gujarat becomes operational, the waiting period for the Vitara Brezza compact SUV is expected to come down. Offered in three trim levels – LDI, VDI and ZDI, the Vitara Brezza is available in single engine option only. The diesel version is powered by a 1.3-litre DDiS 200 Multijet oil burner which is tuned to produce 89bhp of max power against the peak torque of 200Nm while the power is transferred via 5-speed manual gearbox to the front wheels. With GST coming into effect, the prices of the compact SUV has come down by up to INR 2,148 which is now priced in the range of INR 7.24 lakh – 9.69 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Maruti Suzuki India is also preparing itself to launch petrol derivative of the compact SUV by this festive period. Powering the petrol iteration is expected to be a 1.0-liter boosterJet engine which also does duty on Maruti Baleno premium hatchback. The petrol mill can generate 100.5bhp of max power and 150Nm of torque. It is also rumoured that the petrol version will also be equipped with 1.4-litre VVT or 1.5-litre M15A petrol mill. As Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has been ruling the sub-4m segment ever since its launch, it is compelling other manufacturers to launch their respective models in the market. Tata Motors is all set to launch Tata Nexon in India this festive season which will be challenging Vitara Brezza in the same segment.
