Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer, is contemplating on launching the Vitara Brezza petrol and the diesel AMT in the coming few months. The Maruti Vitara Brezza was launched in India in March 2016, but came equipped with the diesel engine alone. Maruti Suzuki, at the launch of the SUV, had confirmed that the Vitara Brezza petrol will be launched in India by the end of 2016. However, this was pushed to April 2017 as the company was busy testing the 1.0-litre BoosterJet engine on the Maruti Baleno RS. Now that the BoosterJet is being manufactured locally in India, the turbo-charged engine will find its way on to the Vitara Brezza petrol. That said, the launch of the petrol variant will take some months as industry speculations suggest that Maruti Suzuki will first launch the diesel AMT in the coming months, which will be followed by the launch of the petrol variant. Maruti Suzuki recently introduced the Maruti Ignis and the Maruti Suzuki DZire, both of which gets a 5-speed AMT gearbox. AMT seems to be the preferred choice for Maruti Suzuki when it comes to automatics. We expect the company to first launch the Vitara Brezza diesel AMT, while the petrol variant along with the optional AMT variant will be launched by the festive period or end of 2017. The major delay in the launch of the petrol and automatic variants of the Vitara Brezza is because of production constraints at the company’s manufacturing facilities, apart from the high waiting period on cars like the Vitara Brezza, Baleno, Ignis and the Ciaz. The Maruti Vitara Brezza has recorded over 1.1 lakh unit sales in its first year while the car has received over 2 lakh bookings with the waiting period being 6-8 months. The Maruti Vitara Brezza’s prime rival, Ford EcoSport, comes equipped with two petrol engine options. Having a petrol engine will make the sub-compact SUV accessible to a wider range of buyers in India. Speaking about the power-train, the Vitara Brezza is powered by a 1.3-litre DDiS four-cylinder diesel engine that is tuned to develop 89 BHP of maximum power along with 200 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The petrol variant will be powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder BoosterJet petrol engine. This engine produces 100.5 BHP of maximum power and 150 Nm of peak torque on the Baleno RS, while it comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. It is to be seen whether Maruti Suzuki will offer the same mechanicals on the Vitara Brezza or equip the car with the Euro-spec engine producing 110 BHP of power and 170 Nm of torque. Features list on the Vitara Brezza include 7-inch touch-screen infotainment system, automatic climate control system, cruise control system, reverse parking sensors and camera, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wiper, projector headlamps and electrically adjustable and retractable ORVMs among others. Safety features include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP and the likes. As far as pricing is concerned, the diesel variant of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is priced in the range of INR 7.19 lakh to INR 9.88 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Going by the current market scenario and the price difference between petrol and diesel engine options, the Maruti Vitara Brezza Petrol is expected to be priced in the range of INR 6 lakh to INR 8.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Vitara Brezza will rival the Ford EcoSport, Mahindra TUV300 and the Mahindra NuvoSport. The petrol variant of the Vitara Brezza will be powered by a 1.0-litre BoosterJet engine.
