All car owners are familiar with the concept of 'passing' their new vehicle at the relevant RTO, and the time spent in long lines isn't the best beginning for ownership. Most dealers do away with this by sending their representatives to the RTO to get the vehicle passed, and the registration number is handed over a few working days later. However, dealers in Mohali are currently being trained by the state transport department to register the vehicles they sell themselves and issue registration numbers. The certificates will be submitted to the concerned District Transport Officer and Sub-Divisional Magistrate offices for formal approval, after which the documents will be sent to the customer's address. This should take two working days for a local address and seven for an outstation one.  Also Read - Coronavirus: Chandigarh Family Said Will End Life Due to Shortage of Food, Cops Rushed to Save Them

The first phase of training will be completed by next week, post which the system will be launched. By the end of the month the system will be implemented across the state of Punjab. The dealer will not be able to issue special numbers to the customers at the dealership itself.  Also Read - 70-Year-Old Man, Punjab's First COVID-19 Casualty, Transmitted Virus to Hundreds: Reports
