Hyundai India launched the all-new 2017 Verna in August 2017. In the new generation avatar, the car maker ditched its lower powered 1.4L petrol and diesel engines in lieu of the more powerful 1.6L engines. However, Hyundai India will reintroduce the 1.4L petrol engine option on the new Verna, which will be launched tomorrow. The Verna 1.4L petrol will be available in two trim levels – E and EX. When enquired at local Hyundai dealerships in Mumbai, we got to know that the Verna 1.4L petrol is priced at INR 7.29 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). Our sources further revealed that the 2017 Hyundai Verna 1.4L petrol EX MT variant is priced at INR 8.60 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). Moreover, the Hyundai Verna 1.4L petrol E variant undercuts the Verna 1.6L petrol E variant by a good INR 70,000. The Verna 1.6L petrol E variant is priced at INR 7.99 lakh (Ex-showroom, Mumbai). The 1.4-litre petrol engine displaces 1,368cc and is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. This engine produces 99 BHP of maximum power while developing a peak torque of 134 Nm. This is the same engine that currently powers the Hyundai Elite i20 AT. However, Hyundai India is expected to discontinue this engine on the Elite i20 facelift and introduce a 1.2L CVT. In terms of equipment list the E and EX variants on the Verna 1.4L petrol offer same amount of features as that of the equivalent 1.6L petrol model. The base E variant equipped with dual airbags and ABS with EBD, electric mirrors, 15-inch steel rims, rear central armrest and a cooled glove box. The EX variant is better equipped that gets a 5.0-inch touch-screen system with four speakers, rear parking sensors, cruise control, keyless entry, projector fog lamps, rear AC vents, height adjust driver seat and a front armrest among others.
