New Maruti Alto 800 diesel India launch in December, 2015: to get Celerio 800cc diesel engine

The current generation Alto 800 is only available in petrol and CNG fuel options. The vehicle is claimed to return an ARAI certified fuel economy of 22.74kmpl; however, the new model is likely to be more fuel efficient. Interestingly, the new Alto is also expected to get the two-cylinder 800cc diesel engine, which is developed by Suzuki Japan. This engine currently powers the Celerio hatchback, which is also the country's most fuel efficient car with ARAI certified 27.62kmpl of mileage.

Maruti Suzuki announced that the company has sold 28 lakh units of Alto in the past 10 years. In April-June 2015, the company managed to sell 104,801 units of the 800, Celerio/A-Star, Alto and Wagon R models together as against 102,729 units in the same period last year. However, in domestic market the sales of these models have seen a constant decline. With new Alto and diesel powertrain, MSI is aiming to increase sales of its one of the best selling products in India.
