The new Maruti Suzuki Swift is set to launch in India during the first half of 2018, has now been unveiled in Japan in its Hybrid avatars. To be made available in two variants Hybrid SG and Hybrid SL, the new (Maruti) Suzuki Swift Hybird comes with a 10KW Motor Generator Unit (MGU), which is paired to the car’s standard 1.2-litre,  90Bhp petrol engine. Mind you, the new Swift Hybrid is a full-blown Hybrid and not to be confused with the hatchback’s mild-hybrid SHVS avatar. The engine-electric motor combo drives the wheels through a 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) and promises a mileage of 32km/l. The system has been tuned in such a way that during crawling traffic conditions, it shifts automatically to EV only mode and shuts of the gasoline powered engine, thereby saving fuel. Despite the edition of an on-board battery pack, the new (Maruti) Suzuki Swift Hybrid weighs under 1000kgs. The hatchback comes equipped with paddle shifters, an extra over the standard Swift. That said, the rest of the specifics remain identical to the standard 2017 model. As far as the India launch of the new Suzuki Swift Hybrid is concerned, no official confirmation has come from the manufacturer yet. This being said, the launch of the same on our soil seems to be a distant shot, specially keeping in mind the new GST scheme which imposes heavy taxes on Hybird and mild-Hybrid vehicles. However, the new Maruti Suzuki Swift, in its standard gasoline and diesel driven guises is to make debut in India during next year’s Delhi Auto Expo. The India launch of the same is expected to happen during the first half of 2018 itself. The new Swift 2017 comes with a completely redesign character, be it the exterior profile, interior cabin layout or the chassis on which the hatchback is based upon. Underpinning the new Maruti Suzuki Swift is the automaker’s HEARTECH platform which can also be seen on the Vitara Brezza, Dzire, Ignis and Baleno. With its light weight characteristics, the platform offers increased fuel economy and a peppier experience to drive. Not only this, its structure is quite rigid, thereby increasing Swift’s overall safety quotient. The new Maruti Suzuki Swift will share it’s engine line-up with that of the current generation model. The petrol derivative will be the same 1.2-litre VVT K-Series engine while the diesel is to be the Fiat sourced 1.3-litre DDiS unit. Both the engine will be paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. However, there is possibility that Maruti might just introduce its 5-speed AMT gearbox, just like it did with the Ignis and Dzire. Prices are expected to fall in the range of INR 4.5 lakh to INR 7.5 lakh.
