Buoyed by an excellent response for new Camry Hybrid, Toyota is gearing up for the launch of the new generation Prius hybrid in the country. Unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo, the new Toyota Prius is expected to be launched by the end of this year. The new model will be benefitted from the Government's FAME scheme, which gives incentives on eco-friendly cars. The new Prius is powered by a 1.8-litre petrol engine coupled to a dual electric motor system. The hybrid powertrain delivers a combined output of 166bhp and 305Nm of torque. Equipped with a 8.8kW/h lithium-ion battery, the sedan is claimed to return a fuel efficiency of 21.26kmpl. Toyota claims that the chassis of the new Prius is around 60 per cent more rigid, offering improved stability, handling and overall comfort level. It also gets new front suspension and a rear double wishbone suspension, which further enhances its overall stability. The sedan features a new nickle-metal hybrid battery that is positioned beneath the rear seats, resulting into better weight distribution of the car. It offers a boot space of 502-litres, which is good enough to carry your weekend bags.

Dimensionally, the Prius is 4,540mm in length, 1,760mm in width and 1,470mm in height and has a large wheelbase of 2,700mm. It is now 60mm longer, 15mm wider and 20mm lower than the previous model.
