Next-generation Jaguar XK sports car to turn into a softie?

Jaguar says all-new XK could grow in size and become more of a luxury-oriented offering.  

The current-gen Jaguar XK is one of Jaguar’s sportiest cars in its entire line-up. What’s more, the mental XKR with its 510PS supercharged 5-litre V8 engine, boasts of true sports car pedigree. However, with the recent unveiling of the even sportier F-Type, Jaguar is now “going through a lot of discussion” as to how the next-gen XK would shape up.

Jaguar’s design director, Mr Ian Callum says that the upcoming XK could grow in size and become a bit more special than a GT. What it means that unlike the current model, the next-gen XK could be developed as a more luxury-oriented car rather than being offered up as both a sports coupe and a grand tourer. The smaller, F-Type would then be tagged as Jaguar’s out-and-out sports car.

As for the XJ four-door saloon, Jaguar has confirmed that the next-gen model will remain a conventional saloon as it believes that the demand for big, executive saloons will continue to remain strong in key markets like the US and China.
