NY2011: Fiat 500C

Fiat has taken the roof off the Cinquecento for the New York Motor Show! Well, not quite. Called the 500C, this is the convertible version of the Fiat 500 hatchback. Fiat, however, touts that this convertible isn’t similar to the other droptops in its class, thanks to its power, dual-layered panoramic roof which leaves the wheel arches in place while the canvas is slid back.

This setup is said to reduce the wind noise and buffeting as compared to the other convertibles. It also reduces the toll that the drophead takes on the rear passenger and boot spaces. Fiat says that the roof can be partially or completely retracted at up to 100 kmph.

The 500C will be powered by a 1.4-litre MultiAir petrol engine which is good for a 101 PS power. Considering the poor sales of the 500 in India, we don’t expect this pint-sized convertible to come to India, but we can be sure that this will be one of the most loved convertibles around the world just like its hatchback sibling.
