Hyundai Motor India Ltd. is developing an all-new sub-compact SUV for the Indian market that will rival the Maruti Vitara Brezza. The concept version was showcased as the Hyundai Carlino at the 2016 Auto Expo. Now, a new report from ET Auto reveals that the production version of Hyundai Carlino will be powered by an-new 1.0-litre T-GDi turbo-charged petrol engine. The Hyundai Carlino is internally known as Hyundai Qxi and the production name of the SUV is yet unknown. The production version of the Hyundai Carlino will be showcased at the upcoming Auto Expo 2018, while India launch will take place in the first half of 2019. The report further claims that Hyundai will use a direct injection turbo charger on the petrol engine to extract higher power. Power figures are unknown yet, but should be in the 110 BHP and 150 Nm ballpark. The diesel model is likely to get the 1.4-litre VGT turbo-charged diesel engine that produces 99 BHP of maximum power and 220 Nm of peak torque. Being a sub-4m SUV, the Hyundai Carlino will be less than 4,000 mm in length and should get a wheelbase of around 2500mm. The sub-compact SUV will rival the likes of Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Mahindra TUV300 and the upcoming Mahindra S201. Hyundai Motor India is also expected to launch the new Santro this year, which will debut Hyundai’s new AMT (automated manual transmission) technology. We expect the production version of Hyundai Carlino (Hyundai Qxi) to launch in the price range of INR 6.5 lakh to INR 9 lakh (ex-showroom).
