Renault India will today take wraps of its all-new crossover SUV in India – the Renault Captur. The will compete in the crossover SUV segment against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, Honda BR-V and the Hyundai Creta. Renault India has started accepting bookings from today at an amount INR 25,000, while the car is expected to launch in India in October 2017. Renault India has revealed that the premium offering will not come with a base variant while the top-end variant will be called ‘Platine’. With that being said, Renault Captur could be priced at a premium and we expect a price range of INR 12 lakh to INR 16 lakh (ex-showroom). Renault expects to have a total of 320 dealerships in India by end of 2017, which will help the company to exemplify its strategy in the Indian market. The Renault Captur is based on the modular BO platform and will be positioned above the Renault Duster in Renault’s Indian product portfolio. This is the same platform that also forms the basis for the Duster as well as the Nissan Kicks compact SUV. The Renault Captur gets full-LED headlamps along with integrated floating turn indicators, while the car also gets LED daytime running lights and LED taillights. On the features front, the Captur will come equipped with a 7-inch MediaNav touch-screen infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto while it also gets GSP assisted navigation and Smartphone integration with Bluetooth connectivity. As far as interiors are concerned, the crossover will get dual-tone interiors, twin-pod instrument cluster and leather upholstery for seats among others. At the heart of the matter, the Renault Captur will share its engines with the Renault Duster. The oil burner will be powered by a 1.5-litre dCI diesel engine that produces 108 BHP of maximum power and 248 Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the petrol model will be powered by a 1.5-litre H4K petrol engine that is capable of pumping out 105 BHP of maximum power while developing 142 Nm of peak torque. Both the engines will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. A CVT automatic transmission might be offered as an option as a later stage.
