The D-segment sedan market already is a crowded field with a range of cars from the Germans, the Koreans and the Japanese. At one end, you have sensible and immensely practical offerings like the Toyota Corolla Altis and the Skoda Laura and on the other, there’s the stylish and modern looking lineup including the Hyundai Elantra and the Renault Fluence.  But as we all know, there’s also a brand new car vying for buyers’ attention.

It is of course the all-new 2013 Skoda Octavia, a car which has been eagerly awaited by many. Having made its debut recently, the new Octavia is all set to hit the showrooms. Skoda India, in fact, will launch this new model during the first week of October.

The 2013 Octavia will be available in three trim levels – Active, Ambition and Elegance. As for the power-train – three engine and three gearbox options will be on offer. Forming the petrol range will be a entry-level 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol from the Jetta and a bigger, more powerful 1.8-litre unit. The diesel powered model, on the other hand, will be powered by the familiar 2-litre TDI unit found in the rest of Skoda’s lineup.

While the entry-level 1.4-litre petrol model gets a 6-speed manual gerbox, the 1.8-litre counterpart will feature a highly advance 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The 2-litre diesel model will be available with both manual and automatic gearbox options. The automatic, however, will be a 6-speed unit as against the 7-speed gearbox mated to the petrol powered Octavia.
