As it enters the market the Bolt will be challenging leading players like Maruti Suzuki Swift, Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai Grand i10 and Elite i20. Being priced a little lower than its opponents might give the Bolt an upper hand. The Bolt is being offered in four trims namely, XE, XM, XMS and XT. All the four variants will be available both in petrol and diesel models.
On the design front the Bolt looks much younger, sportier and bolder than its predecessor Tata Indica. With renovated design language and styling the Bolt is quite expressive mainly due to the headlamp that combines projector bulbs with highlighted and blacked out elements to create a unique eye-like effect. The honeycomb grille and front fender reminds you of Zest. As for the back the most eye-catching bit of design at the rear is the blacked out C-pillar arms that give the Bolt a reverse floating roof look. The designers have shed the tail lamp’s legacy design of vertically stacked elements going all the way up to the roof. Instead it is now a more petite, clean and very European combination that ends below the rear glass and below the shoulder line wrap.
Inside the Bolt Tata’s traditional strength of great space is retained and it gets the same high quality cabin interiors as the Zest. the top XT trim gets Harman touchscreen infotainment system, while the lower trims get a more conventional audio system. The touchscreen gets many class-first features like voice commands, video playback and satellite navigation. There's climate control and powered wing mirrors too. For safety, the Bolt gets dual front airbags and ABS with EBD and CSC (Corner Stability Control).

The Bolt come powered with the all-new 1.2 litre Revotron petrol engine pushing out 90 PS max power @ 5,000 rpm and 140 Nm peak torque @ 1,500 – 4,000 rpm; and Fiat-sourced 1.3 litre MultiJet diesel engine churning out 75 PS @ 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm @ 1,750 – 3,000 rpm. Both variants are equipped with 5-speed manual transmission and are capable of 155 kmph top speed.
