Tata Bolt to Launch Today: Tata Motors is expected to offer Bolt at the starting price of INR 4.2 lakhs in India

Being Tata’s comeback car for the segment we have no doubts that they would go with some really competitive pricing strategy. So long story short you will be getting some of the best and never befor offered features in the segment at a really affordable price. One of the main highlights of the Bolt is that it comes with a new Revotron turbo-charged petrol engine, which is the only turbo petrol in its class. Moreover, Tata also offers better ECU tuning for the engine, which is expected to make it a much smoother car than the Zest.

The Bolt is based on the X1 platform and shares lots of design aspects with Zest. The fascia of the Bolt is quite expressive mainly due to the headlamp that combines projector bulbs with highlighted and blacked out elements to create a unique eye-like effect. It also gets the same honeycomb grille as Zest and a similar front fender. As for the back the most eye-catching bit of design at the rear is the blacked out C-pillar arms that give the Bolt a reverse floating roof look. The designers have shed the tail lamp’s legacy design of vertically stacked elements going all the way up to the roof.  Instead it is now a more petite, clean and very European combination that ends below the rear glass and below the shoulder line wrap.

In the inside the Bolt offers you one of the largest cabins in the class and even the trims are more refined and attractive.  Be it the front or back the Bolt offers you enough legroom space so there is no question of discomfort during long drives. Additionally the Bolt gets a new dashboard similar to the one offered in the Zest but misses the dual tone hues that you get in the later. The dashboard in more informative and equipped than Tata’s previous hatchbacks, in fact the top-of-the-line variant will have a Harman-sourced central touchscreen, voice commands and new SMS readout capability. It will also receive some additional features like Smartphone-based navigation with an offline maps support.

Under the hood the Bolt is powered by an 1193cc 1.2-litre Revotron turbo-charged petrol engine and 1.3-litre Quadrajet diesel motor. While the petrol mill produces 90PS of power and 140Nm of torque, the diesel engine will be churning 75PS of power and 190Nm torque. Like the Zest, the Bolt too will be offered with three driving modes that change the fuel mapping and thereby the overall performance. It also gets an independent McPherson Strut up front and the semi-independent twist beam at the back, which makes the ride quality smooth and comfortable as to comfortably glide over potholes.

When it hits the road, Tata Bolt will be competing with the likes of Maruti Swift, Fiat Punto, Toyota Etios Liva and Volkswagen Polo. Expected to be a make or break car for Tata Motors, the Bolt is an attempt by the Indian automaker to retain its position as the leader of passenger car division. And if performance reports are to be considered true than that hatchback segment will truly have a challenger.
