Tata Motors is all set to launch the Tata Nexon, tomorrow in India. Earlier last week, the company officially opened bookings for the Nexon sub-compact SUV in India at an amount of INR 11,000. The Tata Nexon is based on the X1 platform, which also underpinned the Tata Indica hatchback and Manza sedan. Developed under the HorizonNext product strategy, the Nexon is designed under Tata Motors’ IMPACT design philosophy. The new sub-compact SUV will mark the company’s entry into the compact SUV, which also consists of cars like Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport among others. Tata Nexon Design – Exteriors: Rivaling the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and the Mahindra TUV300, the Tata Nexon comes equipped with 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, projector headlamps, rear spoiler and roof rails. The design of the car is highlighted by a humanity line mesh grille, projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, bulging wheel arches, sloping roofline, black plastic cladding on the door and a purposeful character line that runs from the headlamps, through the door handles and finally integrating into the rear taillights. Coming to the rear of the car, the Tata Nexon sports LED taillights, rear spoiler, a compact tailgate and rear bumper with black plastic cladding. Tata Nexon Design – Engine Specifications & Transmission: Under the hood, the upcoming Tata Nexon is available in a set of petrol and diesel power-train options. The petrol variant is powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-charged Revotron engine that is capable of pumping out 108 BHP of maximum power and a peak torque of 170 Nm. The diesel variant gets a newly developed 1.5-litre four-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine that is capable of producing 108 BHP of maximum power and 260 Nm of peak torque. Both the engines come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, however, a 6-speed AMT gearbox will be made available as an option at a later stage. Tata Nexon Design – Price, Mileage & Competition: Interestingly, the Nexon is the first sub-compact SUV to get drive modes. As far as fuel economy is concerned, Tata Motors has not revealed the official figures, but we expect the SUV to deliver a mileage of around 18 kmpl for the petrol variant while the diesel variant might return a fuel efficiency of close to 23 kmpl. The Tata Nexon is expected to be priced in the range of INR 6.5 lakh to INR 11 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Tata Nexon sub-compact SUV will compete against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra NuvoSport and the Mahindra TUV300.
