Following the current wave of compact SUVs, Tata Motors is going to bring the new Nexon subcompact SUV for the Indian buyers probably by the festive season. But another cue that the Chakan based manufacturer is going to take from a best-selling vehicle is the availability of a single engine option in the Tata Nexon. Contradicting the previous speculations that the Nexon will be available, several reports suggest that the upcoming SUV will be available only with a 1.5 litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine option. Until now only Maruti Vitara Brezza was also available with just the 1.3 litre diesel engine option.

Tata Nexon’s new 1.3 litre diesel engine has been newly developed and produces a power output of 108 bhp with 260 Nm of torque which points towards a pretty powerful motor keeping in mind its direct competition of Ford Ecosport and Vitara Brezza. The engine is going to be mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AMT transmission with the mileage output pegged at 22 kmpl which is acceptable keeping the power figures in sight. The diesel engine will be available initially with Tata Motors planning to bring the 1.2 L turbocharged petrol engine in the later stages. Even Maruti Suzuki is expected to bring the petrol powered Brezza in some time. The sentiment towards petrol powered vehicles is shifting slowly and for long term sales goals, a petrol derivative is also necessary to be available in the ranks. Tata Nexon will be the company’s third new product in the year when it is launched and will be boasting of a healthy features list. On the outside it will be featuring LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs with the rear end also topped with LED lights. To give the distinctive styling, Nexon will come with ceramic side finisher, contrast roof colours, 17 inch alloys and roof rails. Tata Nexon is 3995 mm long, 1735 mm wide, 1600 mm high, gets wheelbase of 2470 mm with a ground clearance of 200 mm.

Inside, it gets a 6.5 inch ConnectNext floating touchscreen with all the connectivity options expected in the segment while the sound output comes from JBL speakers, push start/stop button, multi-pod MID instrument cluster and lot more. The starting price of INR 6.5 lakh going till INR 9 lakh will make it a worthy option.
