Recently Tata Motors started the testing of its all-new premium hatchback, that will compete against the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and the Honda Jazz. Internally codenamed as the Tata X451, the car will be based on the AMP (Advanced Modular Platform) platform and is expected to be launched in India by end 2018 or early 2019. The render image of the Tata X451 hatchback seems to be a design mock-up between the Tata Nexon and the Hexa. The front is highlighted by the Hexa-like grille and swept-back headlamps. The side profile sports the ceramic highlights on the shoulder line. The rendering also suggests that the vehicle will get premium and sporty exteriors like a sloping roofline, wraparound taillamps and stylish sweptback headlamps. The mid-sized sedan will compete against the likes of the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz and the Hyundai Verna. Read More: Tata X451 to Borrow Engine with Nexon -Price in India, Launch Date & Images
That said, the X451 will be designed and developed by Tata’s new design centres in Italy, UK and India. If reports are to be believed, the vehicle could share its styling cues from the Nexon compact SUV. Tata Motors will also develop a mid-sized sedan that will also be based on the Advanced Modular Platform (AMP). The sedan version will compete against the Maruti Ciaz, Honda City and Hyundai Verna among others. According to our previous report, the Tata X451 will share its mechanicals with the Nexon sub-compact SUV, however, the engine will be de-tuned to produce lower power figures. The petrol version will be powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron engine that will come mated to a 5-speed gearbox, while the diesel variant will get a 1.5-litre turbo-charged unit that is expected to produce 90 BHP of maximum power. The oil burner will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Expect the car to get a slightly lower price tag (INR 5 lakh to INR 7.5 lakh) as compared to the Nexon.
