Tata Motors is working on a premium hatchback and a premium sedan that will soon hit the Indian market. Internally codenamed the Tata X451, the upcoming new premium hatchback will be based on the company’s Advanced Modular Platform (AMP). That said, the new premium sedan will get its design cues from the Tata Nexon sub-compact SUV. Moreover, our source close to Tata Motors has revealed that the car will be powered by the same diesel engine that powers the Nexon, albeit in a different state of tune. If reports are to be believed, the Tata X451 will be launched in India by end 2018 or early 2019. Also Read: Tata Nexon Bookings Open; Price in India, Launch Date, Images, Review & Features

While the design is expected to be inspired from the Nexon, the car is expected to get an aggressive front fascia and a sloping roofline. Inside the cabin, Tata Motors will offer premium interiors that will be in-line with Nexon, or perhaps, even better. Coming to the heart of the matter, the Tata X451 will be available in both petrol and diesel engine options. The diesel variant will share its engine with the Tata Nexon’s 1.5-litre Revotorq turbo-charged diesel unit. This engine will be detuned to produce 90 PS of power, however, the torque figures are not known yet. On the other hand, it is not clear whether the petrol variant will be powered by the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo-charged petrol engine (110PS/170Nm) from the Nexon or the 1.2-litre 4-cylinder turbo-charged petrol unit (90PS/140Nm) from the Bolt. That said, both engines will come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.
