Tata X451 (Maruti Suzuki Baleno & Hyundai i20 rival) in works; India Launch Likely in 2019
Tata Motors is currently working on all-new Tata X451 premium hatchback which will take on Maruti Baleno, Honda Jazz and Hyundai i20.
As per the media reports in the market, it is believed that Tata Motors has starting working on its all-new premium hatchback which will take on the likes of Maruti Baleno and Hyundai i20. Codenamed as X451, this premium offering from the Pune-based manufacturer is expected to launch in the domestic market by the year 2019. The X451 premium hatch will be the first model to be based on Tata’s flexible Advanced Modular Platform (AMP). To be employed for next generation of hatchs and sedans, the car maker will also look to introduces future SUVs based on this platform. Similar to Volkswagen’s MQB platform, Tata’s new AMP platform is derived from 15 individual modules which can form a complete car when brought together as the fact that the modules are flexible in size. As per the company, the new AMP platform will be very essential as it will facilitate high commonality between the parts as much as 80%. Key Modules such as front and rear axles, powertrains, HVAC modules, etc is believed to contribute to 70 % of the vehicle cost. Foreseeing the need of this platform, the car maker will launch more new products which will be based on this very same platform. The X451 premium hatch will be introduced to intensify the rivalry in the premium hatchback space which is currently dominated by Maruti Suzuki Baleno. It is also rumored that Tata is looking to introduce Honda City rival as well as SUV in the near future. This platform was planned to share with Volkswagen as a part of their strategic alliance which was called off recently as both the parties agreed on the fact that the planned partnership will not lead to desired results.
