The buyer sentiment has stated to shift massively towards SUVs, leaving the earlier preferred sedans in a bit of a slowdown. Tata Nexon: In order to bank on the compact SUV space, the one which currently is the most flourishing, Tata Motors is to introduce the Nexon in India. Based on the automaker’s IMPACT design philosophy, the Nexon takes forward the manufacturers new breed of cars which includes the likes of Tiago, Tigor and the Hexa. Expected to feature a whole array of features and creature comforts, the Nexon will be made available with a choice of both petrol as well as diesel engine options.The former is likely to be powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron motor while the oil burner would be a 1.5-litre Revotorq engine. Jeep Compass: After launching the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee, at a rather steep price, Jeep India is now to debut its first Indigenously manufactured SUV, the Compass in our country. To be priced between INR 18 to 22 lakh (ex-showroom), the Jeep Compass will primarily compete against the likes of Hyundai Tucson and the soon to be launched Skoda Koraq. The major USP of Jeep Compass will be its 4×4 capability, which will give it an upper hand in comparison to its competitors. Talking about the engine specifications, the Jeep Compass is to get a 1.4-litre petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel engine under the hood. Skoda Kodiaq: Another product to be launched in the premium SUV space is the Skoda Kodiaq. Based on the Tigaun’s MQB platfrom, the Kodiaq is the first 7-seater SUV ever to come out of the stables from the Czech automaker. The Kodiaq will primarily compete against the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the soon to be launched Volkswagen Tiguan. The cabin of Skoda Kodiaq will feature the latest in tech creature comforts alongside a whole array of luxury equipment as well. Powertrain options are to include both petrol and diesel derivatives while there will be both manual as well as automatic transmissions on offer. Renault Kaptur: To exploit the premium compact SUV space, Renault India is to launch the Kaptur in the Indian car market. Based on the same chassis as that of the Duster, the Kaptur will be slotted above the former in the French automaker’s portfolio in India. The Kaptur will get a premium cabin layout with a number of features on board. The Renault Kaptur will be powered by the same petrol and diesel engines that do their duty on the Renault Duster. It means that the petrol derivative is to be a 1.6-litre unit while the diesel will be a 1.5-litre oil-burner. A 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic will be on offer for taking care of the transmission responsibilities. Talking about the prices, the Renault Kaptur is likely to come in the range of INR 16 to 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
