The faulty Takata airbags issue continues to effect the international automotive industry as now Toyota Motor Corporation yesterday announced the recall of about 2.9 million vehicles for the same. The recall effects vehicles sold in countries like Japan, Oceania, Middle East and India.
A total of 1.16 million vehicles are to be recalled in the markets of Oceania and Middle East combined while 750,000 units have been called back from the Japanese market.
Coming to India, about 23,000 units of the Toyota Corolla Altis have been recalled due to this faulty Takata airbags issue. Models manufactured in-between the year 2010 and 2012 have been called back. Customers affected will be notified with the parts being replaced free of cost.
The recall has been done because of the presence of ammonium nitrate in the defected airbags which is quite unsafe is not used with a drying agent.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor recently launched the 2017 Corolla Altis in the Indian car market. Featuring an updated exterior profile, the Corolla Altis gets a few modifications done to its interior profile as well.
The engine specifications remain the same as before and it continues to be powered by the same petrol and diesel engines. The former gets a 1.8-litre unit with the later being powered by a 1.4-litre mil.
The prices of the Toyota Corolla Altis in India starts at INR 15.87 lakh with the top of the line model costing INR 19.91 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
