Leading two-wheeler manufacturers in India today reported sizeable rise in March sales with powerbike maker Royal Enfield leading the list with 42 per cent growth. At the same time country’s largest two-wheeler manufacturers Hero MotoCorp reported a growth of 1.47 per cent in March, while for Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India the sales went up by 1.8 per cent.

Royal Enfield motorcycles are known to be made like a gun and go like a bullet, perhaps the statement stands true to its sales figures too. The popular Indian two-wheeler maker today reported 42 per cent jump in total sales in March at 33,679 units against 23,693 units in the year-ago period.

As for domestic sales even there the sales surged 42 per cent with 32,854 units being sold in last month compared to 23,170 units in March 2014, the company said in a statement. At the same time exports during the month of March this year stood at 825 units as against 523 units last year giving a rise of 57.74 percent.

Coming to country’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp today reported 1.47 per cent growth in sales at 5,31,750 units in March. The company had sold 5,24,028 units in the same month last year, Hero MotoCorp said in a statement. For the financial year ended March 31, 2015, the company sold 66,31,826 units, up 6.2 per cent from 62,45,960 units sold in 2013-14 fiscal.

As for rival Bajaj Auto they reported a 22 per cent fall in motorcycle sales at 2,09,937 units in March as compared with 2,70,578 units the same month in 2014. Bajaj Auto's exports declined by 16 per cent during the month to 98,703 units from 1,18,183 units in the corresponding period a year ago, the two-wheeler major said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

In the commercial vehicles category, Bajaj Auto's sales during the month stood at 40,667 units, up 21 per cent, as against 33,739 units in March 2014. The company's total vehicle sales last month stood at 2,50,604 units, down 18 per cent, as against 3,04,317 units in the same month a year earlier, it added.

Two-wheeler manufacturer Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) today reported 1.81 per cent increase in total sales at 3,99,178 units in March. The company had sold 3,92,060 units in the corresponding month last year, HMSI said in a statement. HMSI's motorcycle sales, however, declined by 18.27 per cent to 1,45,508 units last month compared with 1,78,035 units in March 2014. The company's scooter sales jumped by 21.77 per cent to 2,38,919 units from 1,96,191 units in March 2014, it added. Exports declined by 17.28 per cent to 14,751 units as against 17,834 units in the same month a year ago, it said.

Chennai-based TVS Motor Company today reported 7 per cent increase in total sales at 2,11,122 units in March. The company had sold 1,96,826 units in the same month last year. Total two-wheeler sales for the month grew by 6 per cent to 2,00,238 units as against 1,88,822 units in March 2014, TVS Motor Company said in a statement. Motorcycle sales increased by 13 per cent to 76,936 units last month compared with 68,158 units in the corresponding month a year earlier.

Scooter sales during the month grew by 14 per cent to 54,666 units in March 2015 as against 47,766 units in the corresponding month last year. During the month, three-wheeler sales grew by 36 per cent at 10,884 units, from 8,004 units in March 2014. Exports in March jumped by 42 per cent to 42,637 units, compared to 29,944 units in the corresponding month a year earlier

Two-wheeler maker Suzuki Motorcycle India reported 6 per cent growth in sales in March at 32,431 units. The company had sold 30,594 units in the same month last year, Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL) said in a statement.

“Customer sentiment has been positive with regards to all Suzuki products in general and Gixxer in particular. Keeping in mind the evolving customer tastes, we intend to introduce a new product shortly,” Suzuki Motorcycle India Executive Vice President Atul Gupta said.
