Vitara Brezza and Ertiga makes Maruti Suzuki the leader in utility segment for Q1 2017

Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 57,125 units during the first quarter of 2017 of its vehicles in the utility segment which includes the likes of Vitara Brezza, Ertiga and S-Cross.

Leaving Mahindra and Mahindra behind, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, country’s largest automobile manufacturer, for the first quarter of 2017 have now become the leader in Utility Segment in India. The feat achieved by the Indo-Japanese automaker is all thanks to its largest selling UV in India, the compact SUV, Vitara Brezza. Also helping the cause is the MPV Ertiga and S-Cross with the combined sales of these three cars, in the first quarter of FY 2017-2018, clocking at 57,125 units; an increase of 45 percent (39,348 units) compared to the first quarter of FY 2016-17. In the B-segment, Maruti Suzuki‘s share has increased 7.7 percent in the first quarter of FY18. During April-June 2017, MSIL market share in B-segment stood at 29.3 percent as against 21.5 percent in the same month previous year. Talking about the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, the same has sold a total of 1.45 lakh units, since its launch 2016 and is currently the largest selling vehicle in its segment. Coming to the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, this MPV has sold over a total of 3.42 lakhs units since launch and over 18,700 units in Q1. Maruti further strengthened the exclusivity of the MPV by making it the country’s first vehicle in the said category to be made available with the automaker’s smart-hybrid SHVS technology. Talking about the UV segment in the whole, with the recent introductions of some newer models, the likes of which include the Honda WR-V, have completely changed the way buyers now look at this segment. Earlier only populated by the likes of Mahindra Scorpio, in a span of just 4-5 years, is now filled with cars like the Ford EcoSport, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Honda WR-V and the Mahindra TUV300. These cars offered a more premium alternative which the buyers in the urban and semi-urban set-ups were rooting for; thereby changing the segment’s entire structure. Soon more players are to enter in the urban compact SUV segment, the likes of which includes Tata Motors and Hyundai. Not only this, existing players are to soon start getting their mid-life facelifts as well.
