We have to say this is quite a smart move by Volkswagen India, especially with the festive season just around the corner. While the company hasn’t made an official announcement yet you can surely expect to see it in next couple of weeks. Moreover Fiat is also set to launch the much anticipated Abarth Punto during this festive season so it is quite natural that Volkswagen will be equipping its arsenal to meet the competition.
Coming to the car itself the updated Polo GT will get cruise control, cooled glove box and electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs as part of the standard equipment list. These features were also seen in the recently launched Volkswagen Vento. In terms of design and mechanical offering the car remain unchanged but with these new premium offerings you can expect to see an additional premium of INR 10,000 – 15,000 over the current price.
Under the hood the car will still be powered by a 1.2-litre TSI petrol engine that produces maximum power of 105 PS and 175 Nm of peak torque while paired to a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. At the same time the 1.5-litre TDI diesel churns out 105 PS of maximum power and 250 Nm of peak torque and is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
