The Geneva International Motor Show 2017 is in full swing, and there are a few really interesting prospects coming to India. There is the Tata TAMO Racemo sports coupe that was unveiled yesterday, but there is another car coming from Swedish automotive giant Volvo: the XC60. The new car continues the new design language adopted by Volvo, visible with the XC90, V90 and S90. It gets the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) from Volvo, resulting in a longer wheelbase. The XC60 will compete in the mid-sized SUV space in India, which includes the BMW X5, Audi Q5, Mercedes GLC and Jaguar F-Pace.

On the outside, the XC60 gets beefier than before thanks to the new SPA platform that is also seen in the Volvo 90 and 60 models, including the V60 and S60. More specifically, it gets longer by 62mm, with a total length of 4,690mm. The width of 1,902mm is also higher by 12mm, but the XC60 is shorter by 14mm, with a height of 1,658mm. The greater length has resulted in more space at the rear and, despite the lower height, the XC60 gets a higher ground clearance. Inside, the Volvo XC60 comes with a cabin that is very similar to the XC90, with premium materials like nappa leather, wood veneer and textured aluminium. The latter two are seen on the new instrument panel of the XC60. For evidence of the XC90 influence, take a look at the portrait-style centre screen that gets a Sensus infotainment system. The SUV also gets four-zone climate control, a Bowers & Wilkins audio system and a number of safety and self-driving features as standard additions and options. Standard elements include automatic braking if the XC60 senses an incoming collision at up to 60 kmph, and steering support in case a head-on or other collision is detected. For options, there is a lane departure system that keeps the car in lane and maintains distance with other vehicles at speeds up to 129 kmph. Now, for the power-train, the Volvo XC60 has been introduced with a D4 diesel engine that delivers 187 bhp of power and D5 PowerPulse diesel engine that delivers 231 bhp. The car will also come with T5 petrol engine that delivers 250 bhp and turbocharged and supercharged T6 petrol engine that delivers 315 bhp of power and 400 Nm of torque. There is also a twin-engine T8 petrol and plug-in hybrid setup. The Volvo XC60 will be launching in India within 2017, though it is not clear which of the engines will come to the country. “We have a strong heritage in designing stylish and dynamic SUVs that offer the latest in technology. The new XC60 will be no exception. It’s the perfect car for an active lifestyle, and it represents the next step in our transformation plan,” said Hakan Samuelsson, CEO and President of Volvo Car Group.
