Volvo XC90 Signature Edition revealed

Having already confirmed that its seven-seater XC90 is going in for a replacement late next year, Volvo has now launched a special edition version based on the current model. Called the Signature Edition, this new model is the new top-of-the-line XC90 based on the R-Design trim and packs in a lot of additional features.

Design wise, the XC90 Signature Edition features unique 19-inch alloy wheels, xenon headlights and tinted rear windows. Inside, Volvo has added quite a bit of kit with additional features including Volvo Premium sound system, electric sunroof, leather upholstery and rear seat multimedia package.

The Signature Edition could well be the last iteration of the current-gen XC90 as Volvo is already readying a replacement, nearly after 13 years since the original model was launched. Expected to be launched by the end of next year, the next-gen XC90 will benefit from Volvo’s all-new SPA (Scaleable Platform Architecture) platform which promises to be very light and rigid.

The Swedish automaker will also drop big displacement engines for this next-gen model.  The SUV will feature fuel efficient and eco-friendly 4-cylinder engines instead

In a bid to reduce the average emissions of its entire model lineup to just 95g/km CO2 by 2020, Volvo is severely looking to take the green approach; which is why the brand will be limiting the engine capacity to just 2-litre for the 2013 XC90. As far as performance goes, Volvo claims these new engines will be as good as the current ones in spite of the cc deficit. What’s more? They will also help the next-gen XC90 return more fuel economy than the current model.
