Yamaha Saluto 125 launched in India: Yamaha prices new Saluto 125 at INR 52,000

Leading Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer Yamaha today launched a new 125cc commuter Saluto 125 in India at an introductory price of INR 52,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). The new entry level 125 cc bike comes with a simplistic body design devoid of much flashy graphics as opposed to what the competitors’ bikes offer. Experts believe that the bike comes as a replacement to Yamaha’s previously launched entry level 125 cc bike, YBR125.

The Yamaha Saluto 125 is powered by a 123 cc engine that churns out a decent 8.3PS of power and 10.1Nm of torque, while the transmission duties are carried out by a four-speed gearbox. The bike is quite light weighted with a total kerb weight of 112 kilograms. In terms fuel efficiency the bike is a real delight with a company claimed figure of 78 kmpl, which is one of the highest in the class.

In terms of design as mentioned earlier, the Saluto 125 come with a very simplistic design and solid colour pattern. The bike is devoid of any kind of body graphics except for a basic pattern on the tank and the back panel that has Saluto badging on it. Other additional features include, alloy wheels and electric start.

Even with its intimidating brand image and name Yamaha has really been able to truly capture the entry level two-wheeler segment in India. Personally I believe it is because Yamaha is not meant to be a player in the lower segment and as a testament to that we have Yamaha’s R1, R15, FZ and such others that have seen incredible success in the Indian market as opposed to Yamaha’s lower-level bikes like Crux, YBR 110, YBR 125, SS 125, SZ-X. But, Yamaha seems to be hopeful about the new Saluto 125 and I can only hope that its sees that success that never came to its low-powered cousins.
