1. 1.6-litre diesel motor– It was speculated that the S-Cross would come with two engine options – a 1.3-litre multi-jet and a 1.4-litre K-Series petrol. Interestingly, the company is also planning to launch a powerful version of this crossover. It will also get a 1.6-litre MJD unit that is good for 120bhp of power and 320Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.
2. New classification– Maruti Suzuki will not use the SX4 name with this crossover. If reports are to be believed, the S-Cross crossover will be named the A-Cross in India. The vehicle is already on sale in many international markets with the name of the SX4 S-Cross. In our nation, Maruti will stay away from the SX4 badge as the SX4 sedan was a big failure in India.
3. Component sharing with Ciaz & Swift siblings – In order to achieve aggressive pricing, the S-Cross will share its interior components with the Ciaz and Swift siblings. It is expected to share a touchscreen multimedia and navigation system, automatic climate control, rear parking sensors and push-button start with the Ciaz, while the dashboard and other elements will be sourced from the Swift.
4. To be sold under Suzuki badge – Maruti Suzuki has started opening exclusive dealerships for its premium cars. Rumours are on rife that the S-Cross, Ciaz and the YRA premium hatch will be sold through the premium dealerships and will only feature a Suzuki badge.
5. Competition – Suzuki will price the S-Cross smartly to target maximum buyers. It is expected to cost around INR 7 lakh to INR 12 lakh. While the entry and mid-variants will rival against the likes of Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano, the high-end variant will lock horns with the Mahindra XUV500.
