Suzuki‘s first wholly owned facility in India, Suzuki Motors Gujarat plant, recently started its operations, with the assembly line for the Maruti Baleno underway. Maruti Suzuki‘s principle supplier, Subros Ltd. has now started shipping its components to Suzuki’s Gujarat plant. The air conditioning parts supplier also revealed that it is ramping up its capacities to meet Suzuki’s current as well as future part requirements. Apart from Maruti Suzuki, Subros Ltd. also supplies components for companies like Mahindra, Tata Motors, Renault-Nissan and the likes. Suzuki’s Gujarat plant has been built at a budget of INR 18,500 crore. The new facility will provide components as well as completely built vehicles to Maruti Suzuki India, while few vehicles will also be exported to global markets. For the time being, the Maruti Baleno will be manufactured at the Gujarat plant, while the company also intends to produce the Vitara Brezza, Igins and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Swift at the Gujarat facility. The Suzuki plant in Gujarat will have two assembly lines along with an engine assembly line. The new plant has an annual capacity of 2.5 lakh. Maruti Suzuki hopes to decrease the waiting period for the Baleno and the Vitara Brezza, which currently commands a waiting period of anywhere between 6-8 months depending upon variants.
