Maruti Suzuki WagonR Tops India’s Passenger Vehicle Sales for Fourth Consecutive Year

Maruti Suzuki WagonR Tops India’s Passenger Vehicle Sales for Fourth Consecutive Year

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has reported that the WagonR was the highest-selling car in India for the financial year 2024-25, with 1,98,451 units sold. This marks the fourth consecutive year of WagonR leading passenger car sales in the country. The hatchback has maintained its position in a competitive market, with cumulative sales crossing 33.7 lakh units.

Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing and Sales at MSIL, stated that WagonR’s continued presence at the top reflects its acceptance among buyers. He highlighted that one in four WagonR customers repurchases the model, indicating brand loyalty. He also noted the role of hatchbacks in the Indian automotive sector, emphasizing their contribution to industry growth and accessibility.

The WagonR is available with two K-Series Dual Jet, Dual VVT engine options: a 1.2L and a 1.0L. It offers both manual and Auto Gear Shift (AGS) transmission choices. The S-CNG variant remains among the company’s best-selling models in the CNG segment, catering to consumers looking for fuel-efficient options.

Built on Maruti Suzuki’s 5th-generation HEARTECT platform, the WagonR incorporates structural reinforcements and safety features such as Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), and Hill Hold Assist. The vehicle is also equipped with a 17.78cm SmartPlay Studio infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and steering-mounted audio controls.

With multiple variants and powertrain options, the WagonR continues to be a key offering in Maruti Suzuki’s portfolio. The company remains focused on adapting the model to changing customer needs while maintaining its presence in the high-volume hatchback segment.
