Yes, you read that right. It's not Monday morning and no one's hungover here, obviously not the person who has written this news piece.

McLaren wants to replace windshield wipers with sound waves!

British Carmaker McLaren too is in complete senses. Replacing windshield wipers with sound waves might sound absurd to us, but it isn't a completely new thing. Much like a lot of other things cars share with aircrafts, this too has been derived from the winged vehicles.

Jet aircrafts use sound waves to clear off their windscreens, with a help of a high frequency ultrasonic transducer that creates waves, and does the same job as a regular wiper would, but in case of the former, the system loses the wiper blade and the motor which runs the wipers, hence making the vehicle more streamlined (wiper blade cause a bit of drag, acting as a buff body. Removal means less drag) and lighter. It might seem slightly unbelievable at the moment, but once McLaren tests the system properly, we won't be too far in seeing more and more cars on road without wipers.
