New Honda Jazz Vs Hyundai Elite i20 Vs Volkswagen Polo- specs, mileage & price

In recent times, we have seen introduction of premium hatchbacks in the Indian car market. Last year, Volkswagen introduced the new Polo while Hyundai brought the new-generation Elite i20 hatchback. Now, it is time for the new Honda Jazz, which is scheduled to go on sale in the country on July 8, 2015. With impressive styling, features and spacious cabin, the new Jazz is aiming to do what Hyundai managed to do with Elite i20. Currently, Hyundai i20 is the largest selling premium hatchback in the country. So, it will be interesting to see how Jazz would affect the sales of its contemporaries in the market. Here is a brief spec based comparison between the Jazz, i20 and Polo.

Engine Specification

The biggest news is that the new Jazz will come in diesel version. The previous model was only offered with petrol motor, which is basically the 1.2-litre i-VTEC unit. This engine will also power the next model, and is capable of producing 88bhp of power and 115Nm of torque. The oil burner is the same 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine that is good for 99bhp of power and 200Nm of torque.

In comparison, the Hyundai Elite i20 is powered by a 1.2-litre Kappa VTVT engine producing 83PS of power and 115Nm of torque, while the diesel version gets a 1.4-litre U2 CRDi motor that is good for 90PS and 220Nm of torque. On the other hand, the Polo gets a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder TDI motor that offers two states of tunes- 89bhp and 103bhp. The petrol version gets a couple of engines- a three-cylinder 1.2-litre and a 1.2-litre TSI petrol that develops 74bhp and 103bhp, respectively.

Dimensions–

Dimensionally, the new Jazz is 3,900mm long, 1,695mm wide and 1,535mm tall, and it has a large wheelbase of about 2,500mm. On the other hand, the Polo is 3971mm long, 1682mm wide and 1469mm tall, and it comes with a wheelbase of 2469mm. In comparison, the new Elite i20 measures 3985mm in length, 1,734mm in width, 1,505mm in height and it has a wheelbase of 2,570mm. Clearly, the i20 is the longest in the league, but when it comes to interiors the Jazz will score high. The Elite i20 comes with 170mm of ground clearance, while Polo has 165mm of ground clearance. It is expected that the new Jazz will get ground clearance of about 150-160mm.

Volkswagen Polo- Rs. 5.33 lakh to Rs. 8.48 lakh
