Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Starts Production of Skoda Kylaq
Skoda begins production of the Kylaq SUV in Pune, focusing on safety, comfort, and sustainability. Launching at Rs 7.89 lakh, deliveries start January 2025.
New Delhi. Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has initiated production of the Skoda Kylaq, its first subcompact SUV, at its facility in Chakan, Pune. This move signifies the company’s commitment to the Indian market and its “Make in India” initiative.
Built on the MQB-A0-IN platform, the Kylaq is designed to cater to Indian consumers’ preferences for safety, comfort, and style. The company has expanded its local supplier network to optimize production and reduce costs.
Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of SAVWIPL, expressed enthusiasm about the Kylaq’s launch, emphasizing its Indian engineering and development. He highlighted its potential to resonate with Indian buyers, given its strong safety features and dynamic driving experience.
To accommodate the Kylaq’s production, SAVWIPL has increased its Chakan plant’s capacity to 255,000 units annually. The plant now operates at a high efficiency of 40 jobs per hour. The company has incorporated eco-friendly materials, such as bamboo fiber, into the Kylaq’s interior, aligning with its sustainability goals.

Andreas Dick, a member of Skoda Auto’s Board of Management, praised the collaborative efforts between Indian and Czech teams in bringing the Kylaq to life. He expressed confidence in the vehicle’s ability to set new standards in the compact SUV segment.
SAVWIPL aims to expand its sales and service network to 350 locations by 2025. The Kylaq, priced competitively at Rs 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom), is expected to be a strong contender in the market, with deliveries commencing in January 2025.
